Allan Hancock College

Allan Hancock College offers an Associate degree in Cosmetology that leads to certification as well. This program prepares men and women to begin careers as licensed cosmetologists. This program will enable students to take the California State Board of Cosmetology licensure examination upon successful completion of the program. Licensure will enable you to work as a beautician in beauty salons and to own and operate your own salon. Students interested in being admitted to this program are required to make an appointment with the manager of a private beauty college with which the college has a training contact to complete orientation. Students will have to check with the school for Cosmetology program fees and be prepared to pay extra fees for a training kit and uniforms.









Butte College

Butte College offers Cosmetology training that can lead to either an Associate of Science Degree or a Certificate of Achievement. The program consists of forty hours of classroom lecture and lab instruction that is completed each week. Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must be at least 17 and have a high school diploma or GED to sit for licensure. Students can sit for licensure exams once they have completed the 1600 hours of training.

Students who successfully complete this program and pass both the written and practical portions of the state examination will be prepared to work in a large array of avenues. Cosmetologists work for chain and independent beauty salons and spas, salons and spas on luxury ships, department stores, cosmetic departments, beauty supply stores, retail and wholesale selling, manufacturer’s representatives, research and development, salon managers, and owners and educators.



Citrus College

Citrus College offers a Cosmetology program that leads to certification. This program will expose you to the latest techniques in cosmetic treatment of the hair, skin, and nails.

Citrus College also offers an Esthetician Program. This program will provide you with the proper skills and knowledge needed to help clients attain healthy skin and an attractive appearance to help them feel their best. Through this training you will be enabled to administer specialized skin care treatments that are suited to each individual persons needs. You will be trained on how to apply makeup creating a look that is suited for the shape of your clients face. This esthetician program is committed to providing you with ability to use skin treatment care that is the same as those found in European-style salons and spas.



College of San Mateo

The College of San Mateo offers Cosmetology training at both the Degree and Certificate levels. An Associate in Arts Degree in Cosmetology is offered at 57 units as well as a Certificate of Achievement. Those who wish to continue Cosmetology training can do so with a Brush-Up and Special Course in Cosmetology.

The Associate in Arts Degree includes 57 semester units of Cosmetology plus additional credits in General Education courses. These additional courses are what sets apart the degree and certificate programs. Students will take Fundamentals of Cosmetology I and II and Advanced Cosmetology I and II. Students wishing to gain certification only will not have to take the additional General Education courses. The Brush-Up, or Special Course in Cosmetology, includes 80 lecture hours and 240 lab hours for a total of 400 hours for the year. Students interested in enrolling in this program must be Cosmetology licensed. This program is used to satisfy supplemental training requirements or out of state training requirements.



College of the Sequoias

The College of the Sequoias offers a Cosmetology program that can be taken to obtain certification in Cosmetology. This program meets state standards and includes 1600 total hours of training so that the student is eligible for written and practical state licensure examinations.

As a Cosmetologist you will be prepared to offer beauty services to your customers that include shampooing, tinting, bleaching, cutting, and styling. You will also be enabled to give manicures, scalp and facial treatments, and provide makeup analysis and shape eyebrows. Training includes both theory of cosmetology, anatomy, physiology, and chemical composition of skin and nails and disorders and diseases of the skin, scalp, and hair, as well as be provided with hands on practical experiences.



El Camino College

El Camino College offers a Cosmetology program that leads to an Associate in Science and Certification of Achievement. This program gives students a wide array of training in the skills and knowledge of hair cutting, coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, manicuring, pedicuring, facials, and other related procedures. Students will complete 1600 hours of training and will then be prepared to take the California State Board of Cosmetology Examination to become a licensed Cosmetologist. Students can expect to enter the industry as hair stylists, design technicians, color technicians, perm technicians, salon owner and operators, estheticians, skin care specialists, or manicure technicians. Materials for this program cost about $850 for the first semester



Fullerton College

Fullerton College offers both a Cosmetology and Esthetics program that will lead to successful and rewarding careers. These programs provide basic theory of Cosmetology and allow you to put theory into practice through hands-on skill labs. Students can choose to do training through a certificate or degree program.

The Cosmetology program requires 1600 hours of training. Both day and evening programs are available. The day program is 40 hours a week and meets from 8 am -4:30 pm Monday – Friday. The evening program is 19 hours a week and meets from 5:30 – 10:15 Monday through Thursday. The Esthetics program requires 1600 hours of training. The day program includes 38 hours a week and the evening program is 19 hours a week. There is also an Instructor Training course that requires 600 hours of training.



Golden West College

Golden West College offers two programs that lead to licensure in Cosmetology and Esthetician. These programs enable you to develop the knowledge, skills, and techniques that are necessary to prepare you for the state licensure examination required to gain employment. Students may also then choose to continue their education and go for the Associate in Arts Degree.

Training includes skin care, hair styling, and manicuring. The Cosmetology program will provide you with appropriate entry level skills from the 1600 hours of training needed. Training begins every couple months throughout the year and lasts 9 weeks. The Esthetician program lasts one semester and prepares you for a career in skin care. This program is a total of 600 training hours and students will receive 18 credits.



Laney College

Laney College offers a Cosmetology program that prepares students for all aspects of working in the field of Cosmetology. This program includes 1600 hours of training in theory, skills, business knowledge, and professional and ethical practices. It will also prepare you to sit for the written and practical licensure examination through the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.

Students may choose to complete their Cosmetology training through the Certificate of Completion program or the Associate in Arts Degree. The Associate in Arts Degree requires an additional 19 credits of General Education. Students can choose to take this program as a day or evening course. The day course is full time and is completed in three semesters. The evening course is part time and can be completed in four semesters.



Los Angeles Trade Tech

Los Angeles Trade Tech offers Cosmetology training programs. These programs meet all standards set by the state to ensure you receive an adequate education to prepare you for a successful and meaningful career in Cosmetology.

This program includes 1600 hours of training to present you with the highest quality education available. Upon successful completion of this program, individuals will be prepared to sit for their state board examination. Students will be trained in theory as well as have the opportunity to put theory into practice with hands-on lab and practical experiences. Students who graduate from this program will be eligible to become established beauty salon and beauty supply owners, make-up artists, hairstylists, and educators. Prospective students must be at least 17 and have proof of completing the 10th grade.



MTI College

MTI College offers a unique Cosmetology and other related programs through their partnership with the school and training of Paul Mitchell. This program will teach you the skills you need as well as inspire you to explore you passion and creativity in the world of Cosmetology. The program will also help you learn the business to potentially enable you to open or manage your own salon. Cosmetology training at MTI gives you exceptional Cosmetology training as well as the education and resources you will gain from an established college. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the California State Cosmetology Board Exam. It will also give you a solid foundation in marketing, client retention, cash flow management, and retail merchandising.



Pasadena City College

Pasadena City College offers a Cosmetology program that will prepare you for a successful career in the world of Health and Beauty. The training program includes 1600 hours of classroom lecture as well as hands on practical experiences. Students who successfully complete this program will be prepared to sit for the California State Board examination that leads to certification and licensure.

The Cosmetology program is offered in all three semesters. New students are accepted twice in the spring session, once in the summer session, and twice in the fall session. The approximate cost of the overall program is about $2,800. This cost includes kit, books, tuition, and uniforms that are required for the program.



Riverside City College

Riverside City College offers training for beauty and wellness in the fields of Cosmetology, Esthetician, and Instructor training.

The Cosmetology training consists of preparation for the care of hair, skin, and nails. The program includes at least 1600 hours of instruction and students must earn a 2.0 or higher on 5 sequential courses. Students will earn 42 credit college credit units and a Certificate of Completion in Cosmetology upon successful completion of the program. The Esthetician program consists of preparation for skin care and make-up. This training includes at least 600 hours of training. Students will earn 17 college credit units and a Certificate of Completion in Esthetician. The Instructor Training program is for experienced cosmetologists to become qualified cosmetology instructors. Training includes lesson planning, oral presentations, methods of evaluation, test construction, and audio/visual equipment operation.



Sacramento City College

Sacramento City College offers an Associate in Science Degree program for Cosmetology or a Certificate of Achievement program in Cosmetology.

Both programs are designed to train students to become cosmetologists with a required 1600 hours of training in cosmetology. The program will prepare students to sit for the California State Examination for the cosmetology license. Training includes permanent waving, manicuring, hair styling, hair cutting, hair coloring, facial procedure, customer relations, professionalism, and salon business. The program costs approximately $1,500 and includes tuition, textbooks, kit, uniforms, personal supplies, and other materials. The program offers both day and evening programs to conveniently fit your schedule.

Students may also choose to complete training and receive a Certificate of Achievement in Art and Science of Nail Technology. This program includes 500 hours of training and is approximately $700.



San Jose Community College

San Jose Community College offers a Cosmetology program that is well looked upon throughout the state of California. The program has a great reputation of producing exceptionally qualified graduates for the past 40 years.

The program provides thought-provoking curricula that encompasses cosmetology training through a scientific, step by step, hands-on learning process. To enroll in this program you must be accepted for either the fall or spring semester. The program can usually be completed in two full semesters and one summer session. It is designed for individuals who can do a full time program only. The cost of the program is $20 per credit union. Training includes instruction in hair, skin, nail, and salon skills. After completion of the program, the student will be eligible for to earn a Certificate of Achievement and/or an Associate of Science degree.



Santa Barbara City College

Santa Barbara City College offers a Cosmetology program that is designed to prepare students to become creative, well-trained professionals to enter the demands of the beauty industry. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be qualified to graduate and to take the California State Board licensing examinations in Cosmetology and Esthetician. The programs consist of lecture and hands-on training that are provided by the SBCC Cosmetology Academy.

The Cosmetology Program includes 1800 clock hours of training. Students must at least be 17 and have completed the 10th grade. The Esthetician program includes 600 hours of training that are broken up into two 12 units. 360 of those hours are designed to develop skill sets in the science and techniques of administering skin care treatments and to expertly apply makeup.



Santa Monica College

Santa Monica College provides a Cosmetology training program for individuals interested in joining the world of wellness and beauty. As a licensed cosmetologists you will be prepared to perform hair care, skin care, and nail care. Specifically, you will be enabled to do hairstyling, haircutting, hair coloring, bleaching, permanent waving, chemical straightening, scalp and hair treatments, facials, tweezing, waxing, make-up, manicures, acrylics, nail tips, nail wraps, and pedicures.

Students will complete 1600 hours of training that will qualify them to take the California State Cosmetology License Examination. The program lasts one year. Full time students attend classes Monday through Friday from 8am – 4:30 pm during the Fall and Winter session and Spring and Summer session. SMC does not offer evening, weekend, or any other part time programs for Cosmetology.



Skyline College

Skyline College has a Cosmetology program that offers training and preparation for individuals who wish to be Cosmetologists, Estheticians, and Manicurists. The program includes 1600 hours of training that is comprehensive and extensive. The Esthetician program focuses on training in skin care treatment and techniques. The Manicurist program provides training in a wide array of services that are nails related.

The Cosmetology program holds courses that include theoretical foundations, practical manipulative skills, business knowledge, and appropriate professional and ethical training that is needed. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be prepared to practice with entry level skills after obtaining licensing through the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. To enter this program students must complete and turn in a Cosmetology program application, complete English and Math college placement tests, submit any previous college transcripts, and complete a Skyline College application.



Solano Community College

Solano Community College offers Cosmetology training. This Cosmetology program includes 1600 hours of intensive training. The program is designed to prepare students to take the California State Board of Cosmetology examination for licensure. Training includes theory and practice in the fundamental skills of all aspects of beauty culture. Students who wish to transfer into this program may do so if the students has not achieved more than 500 hours of certified training.

The program costs a little over $2,000 and include tuition, an equipment kit, and other starting materials. This program will prepare you to be employed as hair dressers, salon managers, salon owners, hair coloring specialists, hair sylists, make up artists, facial specialists, manicurists, nail technicians, wig stylists, manufacturers field representatives, demonstrators and lecturers, receptionists, lab technicians and cosmetic buyers.
